hi george -

as Pat observed, i've seen the increase in mention of VB.NET in
job listings, but i myself haven't looked into the .NET thing yet.
i believe i'll be getting that book too in order to expand my
horizons, but in the meanwhile...

is it possible to explain "in 50 words or less" what the essential
important difference is between pre .NET development and this new
.NET technique ? i mean is the big deal that you can run your app
on a web-site (instead of doing cgi, or java, or asp ? --- or does
this amount to asp ? then they have some nice clean way of accessing
a database ? quicker than odbc ? ).

thanks for any orientation you would be wiling to supply.
