And then there is all the other attendent stuff surrounding Crystal that comes from all the other areas one might want to use (OLAP etc). I just seem to recall a whole lot more convolutions that what you've outlined.

They simplified the server reporting (ie. Web server) licensing for Crystal 9. It was pretty convoluted before, but the Crystal person I talked to did a good job of explaining things.
