Integrates with VSS - I'll look at that, thank you.

>George,
>SQL Navigator from Quest (www.quest.com) integrates with VSS. It installs some tables it uses to "lock" code in Oracle. If you go through the interface, it works great. However, as Mark posted, you can still extract the DDL, modify it and run the DDL script while the item is checked out. As long as you have permissions, nothing locks an actual item in Oracle.

>>Thanks Mark. We are looking at SourceSafe, but I was hoping that there was a tool that could lock the code directly in Oracle.

>>>AFAIK, commercially available software [e.g., SourceSafe] should work as long as you all agree to only edit script files [.SQL files] and perform database updates only by running those script files.

>>>There is nothing to prevent a developer with appropriate Oracle privileges from using SQL Plus to change procedures. They can also use a tool like TOAD to access SP code directly from the database, modify it, run it, and compile it. You might consider only granting 1 or 2 developers the privilege to create/replace/drop procedures.
