Everyone who has been so patient and helpful on this issue:

The command Keyboard '{tab}' at the end of the init method of the form was causing this odd behavior. When I commented out the command everything worked fine! Go figure. If anyone can explain that one I'm all ears. All the rest of the controls didn't exhibit that funky behavior...
