I've got two versions - the version for MM's has it's own report manager UI that requires the MM framework classes (although you don't need to use it). The other version is just the classes I wrote to handle talking to CR and it doesn't need the Mere Mortal framework at all. I've actually got a new version with a few bug fixes, but I've been holding off releasing it because it includes a bunch of functionality that I've been hoping will make it into the next version of MM's (it's stuff that would otherwise require changes to the MM's base classes).

With whatever route you take, I think Craig's book will be helpful. I think it's the only book I've seen that covers CR from a developers perspective.
