I don't know if what you've said is true or not, but it seems that there are more and better paying jobs in C#. I initially did my .NET work using VB.NET (because I'd used VB6 for the last couple of years). Now I'm learning C# - I just think the prospects are better for someone that can work with both...

Having said that, I can't see them dropping VB.NET in the forseeable future - they've made a huge investment in both C# and VB.NET for that to happen IMHO.

  • MS is using VB.Net to lure VB6 programmers into .Net as a means to get them interested in C# too.

  • C# is the better/more standard language which can be relatively easy to migrate to once a developer has picked up VB and .Net

  • MS will eventually drop VB in favour of C# once the majority of the VB userbase have moved to .Net
