The right way is whatever works for you. In GUI design, sometimes you need to actually try another method to see how it will work.

I use the Grid + EditBox technique with my "Log Files": the Grid displays the User Id, Date and Time, active program, etc. while the EditBox shows "event information"; eg. Program error, configuration and environment data.

In another case, the Grid shows some hazardous materials details, while the EditBox shows more detailed information like toxicology, first-aid, etc.

The Grid basically functions as an "Index" with more detailed info in the TextBox; it doesn't seem too hard to take it all in ... particularly if the setup is simply being used for general lookup and browsing.
