I have a Compaq Presario 1528CL notebook I bought last November with XP home. I already had a licensed copy of XP Pro that I planned to install on it. Due to the need to get up and running by the next day with XP Pro, I simply installed it over XP home. This worked well for the first month or so, but over time, my performance degraded. I think this was due to a number of issues including just installing XP Pro over XP Home. In February, I downloaded all the drivers from Compaq, wiped the drive, and installed XP Pro from scratch. System performance improved and my laptop has been fairly rock solid since then. I'd highly reccomend this route provided you have a good backup, recovery disks, and all of the drivers prior to the attempt.

>Unfortunately, 'should' and 'do' may be two different things here. I've read posts where some laptops with XP Home just flat out won't support XP Pro. So I'm just going to install XP Pro and take my chances.
