Unfortunately I don't believe there is a quick way to do it...short of asking your DBA. All of the scenarios that I've ever tried have taken several seconds to execute. Granted, most of them have assumed that the SQL Server connection was valid to begin with, but my point is that there seems to be something in the OS that keeps trying to connect.
