Pardon me for saying so, but if you're not sure what you want, how do you expect to get an answer that as to whether it exists or not? :)

For cases where both items contain the same string (ie idsentifying prefixes and suffixes - per your example) you could use STRTRAN() and CHRTRAN() (Use the latter to remove all punctuation first, then STRTRAN() the longer string with the shorter).

However anything else gets tricky and you would need to specify exactly what the rules for comparison are.
