>We currently use SMTP to send notifications, etc. but our new parent company wants to find an alternative due to security issues. They have suggested API, but I'm not sure how that would work. I believe the interenet side for this is script/prg based. What are the options available? Sorry the information is somewhat sketchy, but the developer who does this is out this week and the home office wants some response today. Or sooner. <s>

What kind of security issues do they have with SMTP?
You can always encrypt the data you send via SMTP.
Also, you can use a SMTP server that support SSL communication. Or you can write your own messenger system.
The API has no "secure" messaging system that will work for everyone.
EMail is generally the easiest and most reliable.
