Knowing the syntactical differences, I would agree with the notion that it really does become a personal preference. After reading a few .Net books and seeing the same basic examples over and over, the differences between the two are fairly transparent to me now.

I think being open minded is the best approach, you can't just rule things out without at least have some knowledge of their existence.
