Thanks, but you seem to be contradicting what I've read elsewhere.

The message reference looks like it has some useful code and I'll play with that in due course.

However, I have found a number of refs to the relevant _screen property (as opposed to forms, top level or otherwise)) which imply that it can indeed be set somehow (I'd settle for it only being settable at design time or even in a config file), and it certainly seems the easiest way to hide the app. The class for a system tray icon works fine for the actual forms but its no good shrinking the form alone and leaving a clean white vfp application screen confronting the user. My ideal code would simply be

_screen.showintaskbar=.f. && doesn't work
_screen.windowstate=1 &&does work

and then reverse them when the icon is clicked to reactivate the app...
