One option is to pass parameters to a compression program that accepts them. See my download #
10009.
For backups, the CAB, RAR and ACE formats offer much better compression ratio (about 30% lower filesize) than ZIP.
RAR has the best compression ratio, while CAB has the advantage that freeware exists which supports it.
