>Again, I never once said FoxPro developers were not professional. Too many people inferred that from my post and have found it convenient to lash out at me. Remember, I am a manager responsible for a major rewrite. I have not found any positive input from developers in Northeast Florida; thus, I have sought out UT. And after the continuing input of MSP's and MS certified professionals who suggest not using Fox, I deserve the opportunity to vent...

J,

Most of the people I have heard say not to use Fox have never used it. They speak from a position of ignorance not knowledge. The suggestion that VB for C/S development is somehow better than VFP for C/S development is simply a position of ignorance. VB is NOT object oriented thus requiring more coding for development and not providing the same level of reusability. VB has no local data engine which means that all data of any kind must reside on the backend, that includes any kind of meta data for the system itself. VFP has a very powerful local data engine and can stored and handle mixed data sources both local and C/S.

The VB developers are numbered in the millions and the VFP developers are numbered in 100,000's that is a factor of 10 difference. It is not surprising that you find more people recommending B as people tend to recommend what they know.

As for the Microsoft development vision, well MS is going for component development which means using multiple products for different parts of a system. VB to build components, VC++ for low level development, VFP for middle tier and data management stuff, SQL Server for backend data storage, Access for ad hoc data manipulation, Word for documetn processing, Excel for number crunching, etc. etc. For a professional developer of any kind to totally dismiss any produtc out of hand and say that there is one single development tool that is best for all situations only shows a level of ignorance of the products that are available. I say that referring not only to the folks who have told you to dump VFP but also to VFP developers that say that VB is no good for anything.
