No, I was stationed at Orlando Air Force Base. McCoy Air Force Base was south of us about 20 miles. I visited Patrick several times. We would go to Daytona after work to cool off. That sure beats watching the thermals rising from Orlando. The amount of moisture in the air is terrific!

On my short wave receiver I could hear the countdowns coming from the Cape, “Count down, Count down, this is count down”. Then a missile would take off and we could see the smoke from our “vantage point” (flat as a pancake Orlando). I did see some good shots in 1960 and 1961.
