Visual Extend costs US$ 500. You can get a sample application for free, from its Web-site. It has the following search features:
Criteria for searches is obtained automatically from the main grid on the form.
The user can double-click on any grid column to sort on that column.
The user can also type in any column, to search (incremental search).
Sorting on a second, third, etc. column is supported with Ctrl-Click on the grid header.
The user can set a filter. This uses a separate form. Once again, the criteria are obtained from the main grid of the data form.
Sort order (as well as many several other things, like form position) are saved on a per-user basis, for the next time the form is opened.
