>I am VFP [8.0] newcomer. I need to re-implement a Search pop-up (form) with more dynamic functionality. Ability to pass multiple fields; click or dbl-click on column header to both sort that field/col in Search grid, and make that the look-up field in adjoining textbox in form, etc.

Visual Extend costs US$ 500. You can get a sample application for free, from its Web-site. It has the following search features:

  • Criteria for searches is obtained automatically from the main grid on the form.
  • The user can double-click on any grid column to sort on that column.
  • The user can also type in any column, to search (incremental search).
  • Sorting on a second, third, etc. column is supported with Ctrl-Click on the grid header.
  • The user can set a filter. This uses a separate form. Once again, the criteria are obtained from the main grid of the data form.
  • Sort order (as well as many several other things, like form position) are saved on a per-user basis, for the next time the form is opened.
