David,
There is sample VB program that can be found on the sample of your MS SQL Server installation. You need to install sample just in case it is not installed yet. The default location of it is on "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\DevTools\Samples\sqldmo". Extract the content of the "unzip_sqldmo.exe". After extracting it, locate the "Service" folder and you can found a sample VB program that handle it.

Hi, I have an SQL2000 server installed on my computer and I would like to be able to start the service from VB . Is there a way to programatically determine if it is started, and if not then start it?
