Hi all:

Using SQL Server 7 / MSDE 1.0

I have to move an existing pair of SQL databases to another installation. I have successfully backed up and restored the databases to the new installation. However, I am having a problem assigning the user to the database. After I add the user to the new installation, I then attempt to assign this user permissions on the databases I've restored. Upon doing so, I get the following error:

"Error 15023: User or role 'Closing' already exists in the current database"

Yet, the user does not really have the permissions showing in SEM (and the application is freezing on the workstations). I've tried a number of things to get around this, including trying to setup the user in the new installation prior to restoring the databases. Same issue occurs.

It's as though the backup contains security information and prevents me from properly setting up security in the new installation. What do I need to do for everthing to work?

Thanks,
