phDbase from Korenthal Associates used to be a tremendous tool for that kind of application. Unfortunately I haven't heard about it for awhile. It does a sophisticated pre-indexing routine that allowed you do do incredibly fast searches on memofields and produces result cursors literally in fractions of seconds. I still have a version from a number of years ago but would like to know if the product still exists or has migrated into something new. It seems to me, too, that it was marketed by Hallogram Software for a while. So if anybody knows...
