According to some experts. The article you quote makes it clear that the "experts" can't quite agree what is more important: the GDP, or the well-being of the people.

I have not heard much about the recession specifically in the U.S., but here in Bolivia, we are still in the midst of a severe economic crisis, and it seems that this crisis happens all over the World.

It seems that the countries of the World are now "strongly coupled", and words like sovereignty, independence, etc., have started to lose their meaning.

Nor is this completely bad; countries are starting to work together to solve World issues, and peoples all over the World are gradually starting to consider the World as if it were "but one country".
