Have you tried looking at the TE editor from SubSystems (www.subsystems.com)?

That has a rich API and supports things like paper bins and duplexing through it's support of RTF documents. It's also extremely well supported, unlike Office you can speak to someone...

PS Have you looked in news2news to confirm your print to file issue? I would have thought the DEVMODE structure would have returned an attribute for this. Print to file has a destination of FILE: so you could just look at the second column of an APRINTERS array, or is that not what you're trying to ascertain?
