What I meant to say was

>Suppose in the future they eliminated the month of August, 2003. That wouldn't change the fact that we were discussing this this on July 21, 2003. The only thing they would have to do in VFP is consider the 31 missing days WHEN DOING DATE ARITHMETIC, and not allow anyone to enter any August 2003 dates. It shouldn't be much more difficult than assuming that the world didn't exist before Nov 2003.

>Actually, according to the help file under VISUAL FOXPRO DATA AND FIELD TYPES you can store any date back to Jan 1 0001. (No mention is made of the SET DATE SHORT "feature" here).
>
>So what if they screwed with the calendar? There are still any number of historical events between 1/1/0001 and 1600 that we know the actual date of. The fact that our current calendar didn't exist at some point doesn't prevent us from expressing historical events prior to said point in terms of our calendar.

>>>VFP is designed to process dates from the 17th. century and later, only. The reason is that shortly before this - 1582, IIRC - there was the change from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. 10 days were omitted, to make Spring start, once again, on March 21. This can cause some confusion (which calendar to use?), and this probably explains the decision not to use dates before the 17th. century.
