Did you set up an ODBC Connection via Start, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Data Sources (ODBC)?

Did you check the directory security for where the data resides for access privaledges? For example, if you needed this ODBC Connection for web access, you will have to allow the IUSR_machine to have the proper security settings.

While you are learning ODBC, you may wish to look into OLEDB for faster access and additional capabilities on making use of the database container.
