Question re: static ip address and smtp mail
We are planning on using the WestWind Client Tools in order to send email (via smtp) from our vfp7 application. As a test, I configured our mail server (MS Exchange 5.5) to allow for relaying from my workstation...using my IP address. This worked great. However, since our IP's are dynamically assigned in the office....the relaying doesn't work anymore because my IP address has changed.
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem before...and how they resolved this situation. The only idea I had was to use a static IP Address. I need to run this by our network admin. Also, I don't know if our customers would be willing to do this. Someone suggested using the smtp service built in to IIS. This won't work in our case as our customers do not want to install IIS on the workstations or servers.
Thanks for any help.
Douglas
