I like your code, but unfortunately it would not work for my situation because...
a) The view is the joined result of 3 separate tables on the back-end server, and to have the view available for your code in the first place I would have to have the view already defined.
b) I would like to get the structure at runtime, not design time, so I can be sure that the selected fields accurately reflect the structures of the backend table(s).
