How do you go about to start your search?
I usually do the following, but I don't know whether it works in Windows XP:
Open the Explorer (Windows-E).
Go to the folder where I want to search (this might be My PC, a single drive, or an individual folder - the broader the scope, the slower the search will be).
Press F3. This will open the Search dialog, with the specified folder already selected.
Enter the search criteria. For instance, Filename = "*.vcx", text to search = whatever you want to search for.
You can save the search options, but due to a bug in Windows, this will only work after you actually performed the search.

Hilmar.
