To be honest, the best place is at this page:

As it outlines the features and pricing.

In short, the control greatly simplifies access to mail server and has built-in support for a lot of mail servers that misbehave by not following the RFC exactly. Authentication support is handled for multiple AUTH mechanisms and the message object allows for HTML message, attachments and header manipulation. I get a lot of compliments on how easy it is to implement because the interface is very straight-forward and written using plain english terminology.

I don't know about too many free solutions, but I do know that you have to worry about supporting a free solution which can cost significantly more in the long run. It generally cost up to ten times more to fix a bug after shipment, and more if you aren't well versed in the protocol.

Good luck with your project though! I am always happy to help with questions you have. Note: All of our products come with free email technical support, which can be quite a large value.
