a slightly more comprehensive review of OzFox

my brain hurts, so i know that the conference has been well worth while. i was "bedazzled" by some of the presentations. they were way past my level of knowledge, and as a result, i have certainly got loads of new concepts to keep my creative juices flowing. what an honour to meet some great speakers from overseas, that was truly a pleasure. and as i had mentioned before, a first up conference organized by Andrew Coates went as smoothly as one could hope for.

the conference surroundings were fantastic, a beach side suburb of Sydney, warmer than what i am used to from further south in Melbourne. the conference sessions were just great. the ability to talk to fellow attendees, and just letting the group interact was catered for with the panel session at the end of the conference.

Object Collections and Artificial Life by Dave Bower was a fantastic session, and for me, Dave's 2 other sessions on A True (fair dinkum) converter from FPW2.6 to VFP were the highlight of the conference. Yes, 2.6 to vfp issues still exist for me, and Dave's answer is truly magnificent. Watch for this if you can.

as jamie said, lauren clarke brought the domestic side of fox into play with his tupperware demonstration, for a moment i thought i was at the tupperware convention. he also amused us with his barrel of monkeys demonstration, and 15 red monkeys hanging in one line was nowhere as interesting as when he started to balance 3 from this finger, 4 from that finger etc. was there foxpro involved here ? dunno, don't care, the presentation was great.

i think mac rubel did open up a familiar software package once or twice in his presentations (was it foxpro??), but he refused to own up to it. i was more interested in the unique security system he had on his laptop - the font size he was using had to be somewhere near Ariel 0.000008, and that's pretty secure, i certainly couldn't read anything.

the team of andy kramek and marcia akins provided some great insights into patterns and data driving applications. their preparation, and the amount of goodies included in their sessions was surely appreciated.

from memory, andrew coates gave a presentation on event handling, but don't quote me on that.... he was popping up everywhere so eventually he became a blur.

this of course, is a non-technical review of the conference. Maybe after i wind down, review my notes, the white papers, and everything else i gathered. (as you can imagine, there is a lot) I might discover I have a lot more tools in my kit.

was it good ? i'm just wondering where the registration form is for next year. :)

fox is alive down under
