Well, the algorithms we apply to our data are very long and complex and you cannot avoid record by record processing. Of course we using SQL select statements as possible as we can but unfortunately we cannot cover the whole logic.
Unfortunately is very difficult to explain you the logic of the algorithms and if I give you a small part of the logic the solution can be made with an SQL statement. But this is not the case.
Imagine a processing you cannot avoid SQL server Cursors,temporary tables, loops,...
