I believe that this has something to do with the fact that many Asian language systems use double-byte characacters to get more than 256 characters that the 8-bit extended ASCII can account for. You're probably getting a few bytes in string literals that the language processor is mistaking for string delmiters or other special symbols on English-only systems. I've encountered a similar situation where English-language software VFP will not function properly in Asian versions of Windows where the extended ASCII set was used (typically the character codes 128-255 will be interpreted as "lead-in" bytes in double-byte systems).
