Sammy,
I think you mean SQL searches ? In SQL you need set ansi on instead.
However you might leave set exact and set ansi at their default settings (off) and use == instead.

ie:
lcSearch = 'AZ200'
select * from myTable where myField == lcSearch

doesn't bring AZ2002.
