Yes, you can associate .PPT files with PPTView.EXE, the viwer. (Not sure about the exact EXE name there).

For presentations this year, I have the .PPT extension mapped to IE4. Better than the PPT system, IMO, because the screen can be resized and it doesn't take control of your syste like PPT does.
