thanks for your response. i've tried creating them in code and get exactly the same problem. my situation seems to be exactly the same as the thread that you highlight except that the final error is the C000005 error i previously mentioned.
the problem with the solution suggested by aleksey is that i downloaded the latest driver from extended systems only yesterday before starting any of this!
anyone have a previous advantage odbc driver that works?
