Jordan,
Thanks for Ken Levy's address.
I am a Seattle resident -- I am in Hong Kong "temporarily" (more than 6 years now). It took a guy from Bulgaria to find Ken Levy's address for a guy from Seattle!
I sent him this e-mail just now:
Subject: FoxPro enhancement
Hey Ken,
In the August issue of FoxPro Advisor, Kevin McNeish spells out in his article "Visual FoxPro and .NET" all the things he thinks are so great about .NET. Perhaps some (or all) of the features that Kevin mentions could be incorporated into FoxPro without compromising FoxPro's strengths.
To me, this stands out: Kevin rates FoxPro's object orientation ("OO") features as "good" (only), while he rates the OO features of .NET languages as "great".
Here is his list of desirable features that are not in FoxPro
Object Oriented features
- abstract classes & methods
- interface inheritance
- overloaded methods, structures, enumerations
- custom events
- static class members & attributes
- templates
- anonymous methods
- iterators
- partial types
- requirement to explicitly override parent method
Other features
- strong typing (enforce strong typing as an option?)
- automatic resizing and positioning of controls
- easy to use menu builder
- complete control over the interface with GDI+
Kevin seems to be one of the FoxPro community's OO experts, so if he says the features above are good, then they must be good. Please make sure that each of features mentioned by Kevin is considered for inclusion on the FoxPro enhancement wish list.
By the way, thanks for the class browser, it is THE BEST!
