One thing you might want to check is how the Novell server is generating the DOS-style short filenames. If it's using the OS2 style method, you could end up with short filename mappings which could result in really confusing problems. For example, if you first create a folder called "ThisIsATest", the DOS short filename generated is "THISISAT". Then let's say you create a folder called "ThisIsAT", the short filename generated would be "THISISA1". Every time you try to access "ThisIsAT", you sometimes get the contents of "ThisIsATest" because the DOS short filename got matched before the long filename. There's a patch that can be loaded that will change the DOS-style short filename generation so that it uses the same method that Win95/98 uses (with tilde followed by a number).
