the Wiki reference is helpful. Most frameworks have some kind of free demo, which is also useful. Finally, check out the support newsgroups/web boards used by the frameworks: there's nothing like seeing the commments from users (and asking questions of them) to get a feel for the product. Some years ago I took a look at an entirely different platform, Clarion: when I saw a question (and the answer, which involved about 7 lines of code) regarding what it took to make the computer bell ring, I stopped looking.
