Set refresh as my main suspect.
Those buffers have to be updated
Set Reprocess ? other locking functions / multiuser settings...

Also I'ld add working with datasessions and opening tables with a DE into the factors measured.

Just from hearsay: in client-server programming is described,
that local views on a networked table incur much less traffic
than a remote view against the same table.
