We don't use VFP rather than FPD, but we experienced problems with the Novell client -which was magnified Win 95 machines - table corruption etc. If you go to Novell.com and search their knowledge base on FoxPro you'll get a number of hits. Also message id #656116 provides good info on client settings. I can tell you the Novell 3.30 client has worked for us -interestingly enough when we went to 3.32 problems occurred again, and we had to back up again. I've also seen a number of messages here indicating that the MS client seems to work fine. Hope this helps some.
