John Henn has written an excellent pirce of software available through VFP
downloads which interfaces with Winfax (WinFax Demo PRG Ver. 2 ) I used this program in a sngle user mode very successfully.

I then wanted to have a network fax solution and then my problems started - either very expensive or in the case of Faxman Jnr so complicated that I asked for my money back. I spent weeks evaluating software and got nowhere.

I then decided to write my own fax server - took me 2 days!!!!!

The concept is as follows

A pc on the network with a fax line and running the above program with some modification. It has a database to which users send their fax requests - very simply the client identification, the unique record id from the main database, combined with the name of the VFP report to run and the fax no.

A timer polls this fax database every 5 minutes - extracts records which have not been sent, uses the unique record id to extract the record to be faxed from the main database, works out which report to work on this record, sends to the winfax printer and off it goes.

And so it goes on - I could make it more complex handling reports which contain data from a number of files or multiple records from the same file - it would not be that complex.

Since I installed it 6 months ago I haven't touched it.
