My opinion on VFP stored procedure is that it should be used mainly for maintaining referential integrity of data. Business rules is best left to business classes.
I wrote my first app long time back using mainly stored procedures, after some time, found the whole process to be very rigid and not able to expand further.
Now, I use it sparingly for just referential integrity only.
Haven't had any data corruption problems that u mentioned though from stored procedures.
