HI all,

I read somewhere in the documentation that you can create an alternate CDX on a table for rarely used index tags, such as might be used in reporting. I have a table that is used for 2 distinct purposes.

One form is a standard data entry search form, which is searchable using multiple keys.

The 2nd form is a specialized data entry form that does a nasty sophisticated matching process to locate parcels for entering tax statements. This one uses only a few very specialized tags.

I'd like to create a 2nd CDX containing only the tags needed for the 2nd form, so that the associated CDX will be as small as possible. During the busy season, we have about 20 people pounding away on this data entry form and it tends to slow down at times as more users are creating records in the table.

The regular production CDX is about 60MB.

Table contains around 400,000 records.

Environment is a LAN, users are executing the EXE overthe LAN and the data is on the file server. optimistic table buffering is on. multilocks on.

I believe it is necessary to repeatedly move the CDX acros the network which is what puts the load on the system as more users are banging away.

Has anyone had experience doing what I propose?

thanks,
