If you destroy the objects explicitly, you might set object references to NULL before you destroy them.

Otherwise, for instance, if you rely on objects being destroyed by variables going out of scope, I wouldn't know what to do. However, you could still try the approach above, as a first step, to see if I am on the correct track, or not.

Another approach would be to change object references. I don't know whether this is a sensible approach in your case.
