Title:
Optimal Foreground Setting
I have just re-read the messages on the forum on the setting of buffer foreground and background. We are encountering some performance issues on a large system that has been in use about 2 years. Several files are greater than 1 G in size. The number of users are often around 20. We have been setting foreground size for the part of our appliations that queries on the large files, but letting it default in other areas. We are now considering setting both foreground and background explicitly for the entire system based on available memory.
I have two questions:
1. As I have worked with these settings over the years, I have assumed that I am setting memory usage on the local machine where the application is running. In some of the threads that I have read, there is some implication that we are referring to the memory at the server. Am I mis-reading this? There is clear reference that as the number of users increase there is less available memory to each user. If anyone could clarify this issue for me it would be much appreciated.
2. If there are any other recent articles on this subject that might be appropriate, I would appreciate the reference.
Thanks much,
Nancy
