VB is a free for all IMO. I wouldn't even attempt to classify how things are usually done in VB :)
I guess it is not the worst scenario in the world if there are VB "wrappers" for all of the stored procedures, but I would suggest moving all of that logic away from SQL Server if your new boss will let you invest the time.
Being married to a particular data provider is no fun.
