Whenever you execute the SQL to create table 2, you are destroying, then recreating, the recordsource to which your grid is bound. This causes the grid to lose all data bindings.
Check out the knowledgebase on UT for ways to deal with this issue. There are several options. Probably the most effective method is to bind your grid to a view rather than to a table. In fact, a view is perfect for what you are trying to do.
