One solution we use successfully at the local Cisco Academy is using a proxy (one ADSL connection; 20 machines connected). Here at home, we also tested it successfully with a cable modem. Actually, the type of connection seems irrelevant - the proxy just forwards your requests, from the LAN to the Internet connection.
At
www.download.com, you can find several proxies. For instance, I saw one that was free for a maximum of 3 simultaneous connections, and cost money otherwise.
The computer that has the proxy server installed has to be turned on all the time, of course. This might be a disadvantage in a small network.
