>Man, I'm giving away all my secrets here. :). Just kidding. I use the hard drive serial number adjust to six digits, which is what the codemine serial number requires for the first part. So if the user installs a new hard drive or installs it on an alternate drive, he will need to contact support for a new serial number

Hi Steve,

We are using a very similar method for years and it works very well.
Well, if someone succeeded to crack the software, he didn't tell us..;-)

But on the other hand, it happened to us a few times that a client said his hard disk was dead and he wanted to reinstall his safe copy on a new computer, needing a new access Code.

With a method like this one, how can we be sure he is saying the truth?
How do we know he did not sell our software to another client?
How can we know he is not installing his backup (or the first copy we sold him) on someone else's computer?

Did you experiment that situation?

One of our application is selling all over the world, so the locking scheme has to be good.

There's always a little doubt and since we all make a living out of it, I tought we might gather our ideas on the matter.

Have a nice day.
