I guess next I'd put a SET STEP ON a little before the place you found the trouble, and examine each variable/field. Set the timer to run with a long interval, so you don't have to reiterate through it a lot.

(Note: In spite of the timer not *seeming* to affect things, I wouldn't be too surprised to find it's related somehow. That's why I suggest leaving it on, but with a very long interval so it doesn't interfere too much with the debugger.)
