Once you've added a new control to a grid column via drag and drop...can you easily remove the previous control from the column in the designer?

Here's the situation. You add a combobox control, and then change your mind and need a date field in a textbox for the column. You switch back to the original textbox control (as the current control), But you get an error because a combobox doesn't support a date field, and it doesn't seem to realize that the combobox is no longer an active control.

I'm looking for something simple, I've successfully opened the SCX file and changed the class for the combo box object, but this is a pain.
